FAQs

What is hydrotherapy and how does it work?

Hydrotherapy uses the warmth, buoyancy, and resistance of water to reduce pain, improve mobility, and speed up recovery. At AquaPhysio in Lower Morden, Surrey, our purpose-built hydrotherapy pool allows patients to exercise in a safe, supportive environment that eases stress on joints and muscles.

Who can benefit from hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy is suitable for a wide range of patients, including those recovering from orthopaedic surgery (hip, knee, shoulder replacements), fractures, sports injuries, arthritis, chronic pain, and mobility issues. Many of our Surrey and South West London patients also use hydrotherapy for wellness, fitness, and injury prevention

Do I need a referral for hydrotherapy?

No referral is required. You can book directly with AquaPhysio. However, many consultants, surgeons, and physiotherapists across Surrey, Merton, and Wimbledon recommend us for post-surgery and rehabilitation care.

How warm is the hydrotherapy pool?

Our hydrotherapy pool is maintained at a therapeutic temperature of around 34°C, which helps relax muscles, improve circulation, and create the ideal environment for safe rehabilitation and exercise.

How soon after surgery or injury can I start hydrotherapy?

Patients can usually begin hydrotherapy earlier than land-based physiotherapy, often within 2–5 weeks after orthopaedic surgery or fracture (depending on your consultant’s advice). Starting early helps maintain mobility, reduce stiffness, and speed up recovery.

Where is AquaPhysio located?

We are based in Lower Morden, on the Surrey–London border (Merton borough), near Wimbledon, Sutton, and South West London. This makes us easily accessible to patients from both Surrey and Greater London.

What should I bring to my hydrotherapy session?

We recommend bringing swimwear, a towel, and poolside footwear. Changing facilities are available. Our team will guide you through your first session and ensure you feel confident and safe in the water

Is hydrotherapy covered by insurance?

Many private health insurance providers cover hydrotherapy as part of physiotherapy treatment. We recommend checking with your insurer. Our team can provide invoices and supporting documents if needed.

"Good morning all at Aqua Physio, as you can see, I am enjoying a short holiday in Perranporth, Cornwall. Because of your help I was able to throw a ball for the dog with my bad arm. Sadly, that was unsuccessful and went about six feet. However, to throw at all and not be in agony was amazing. Thank you for what has been the most effective physio I have received since my accident, I am very grateful; not just for the hydro therapy but also the skill, knowledge and care of your team."
